Laura Carlson is Director of the Kettering Democracy Prize at the Charles F. Kettering Foundation, a nonpartisan, nonprofit, operating foundation founded in 1927, working to inspire and connect individuals and organizations to advance thriving and inclusive democracies around the globe. The Kettering Democracy Prize celebrates individuals or groups showing uncommon courage and commitment to democracy. The inaugural recipients of the prize, to be awarded in November 2025, are Alexei Navalny (posthumous) and Judith Browne Dianis. Prior to joining the Kettering Foundation, Carlson worked as an editor for the American Library Association, West Publishing, and Springer-Verlag New York and was Director of the Antioch Writers’ Workshop.
