Dyllan McGee is a two-time Emmy and duPont–Columbia Journalism Award–winning filmmaker and a force in documentary storytelling. She is the founder and CEO of McGee Media, a production company committed to expanding the historical record and advancing a more equitable world. She also founded MAKERS, the groundbreaking media and live events platform that has galvanized a global community by elevating the voices of trailblazing women.
Since 2006, McGee has partnered with Henry Louis Gates Jr. on all his documentary projects and serves as Executive Producer of Finding Your Roots, PBS’ highest-rated non-fiction series. Through this work, she has helped redefine how Americans understand identity, ancestry, and shared history.
Her leadership in transforming historical and women-centered storytelling has earned recognition from publications including Fast Company and Marie Claire. InStyle named her one of the “50 Women Making the World a Better Place.” She is the recipient of the New York Women in Communications’ Matrix Award and the Planned Parenthood Visionary award for her work preserving women's stories.
